I have been a roofing contractor for almost 40 years from the point of leaving school in 1981 to the present day. We like to specialize in Traditional Roofing, Slating, Pan tiling and EPDM Rubber flat roofs, but we cover all aspects of roofing, from a single slipped tile to a major re-roofing project. Whether its Slates, Pantiles, Shingles/Shakes or Concrete tiles we can do them all with extreme confidence.
Roofing is a bit of a life line in my family and the skills required to complete a roof has been past down from generation to generation for almost 200 years, hence the reason for Generation Roofing. My first experience with roofing was back in my school holidays at the tender age of 14 and use to go to work with my grandfather Reg Proctor ( senior ) for a bit of pocket money.
Then upon leaving school at 16, I worked with him and his son Reggie Proctor ( junior ) for about 7 years and then entered the big wide world on my own! It was hard to start with, but with the knowledge I had gained from my grandfather and uncle (to which I owe both great gratitude, for teaching me) it was short lived, and the rest is history.

A slate roof is probably one of the best roofs to have, to all the other roofing materials available.
Slate is a natural product to the geological areas from which they are mined and being a natural source of one of the earths materials it has got a built in barrier to the weather, it takes many years to wear down.
If the slates have been correctly fitted from new they can literally last a hundred years and more.
Some of the re-roofs we have done in the past are now on their second or third time being used on the roof again.

Lead should be applied to every single roof nowadays where needed, especially to chimneys, abutment walls, valleys, gulley's and flat roofs.
Lead comes in a variety of thickness, commonly known as codes.
These codes are as follow, with reference to code 3 and sometimes code 4, it is normally used for soakers in slates up an abutment wall etc. Code 4 is used for leading chimneys and used for cover flashings.
Code 5 is used for valleys, dormer window cheeks and lead roofs.
Code 6,7 & 8 is normally used for lead roofs especially on churches and historical buildings.

Shingle and shake roof coverings are made of another one of the natural materials found on any continent on any part of the planet, a sustainable material always known as trees!
Yet we very rarely use it as a roofing material.
Some parts of the world still use shingles as a main source of material for their roofs, which is a very eco friendly attitude towards the ease of global warming and keeping down the carbon emissions.
The difference between shingles and shakes is the way they are made.
Shingles tend to be sawn on all sides to form the shingle where as Shakes tend to be a more traditional way of how they used to do wood roofs by splitting the wood to form the same shingle shape.
