We are specialists in all types of traditional pitched roofing from Kent Peg Tiling to slating and modern concrete tiling. We are specialist leadworkers and can provide services for lead cladding and roofing as well as ornamental casting. We also install flat roof coverings in both traditional 3-layer built up felt along with a more modern Dryseal fibreglass system.

Over the last 150 years we have built a reputation for expertise, quality and service that is the envy of our industry.

Throughout this time we have worked on many prestigious buildings including Tower Bridge, St. James Palace, and The British Museum in London, Rochester Cathedral and Portchester Castle in the South East, as well as famous hotels, mansions and thousands of residential properties and homes, both large and small, all of which are just as important in the eyes of their owners and all of which have received the same care and respect from our craftsmen.

Our craftsmen use skills and techniques passed down through generations and they are all holders of the Heritage registration card for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme operated by the Construction Industry Training Board.
Services
John Williams & Co can be traced back to 1870 but there are suggestions that it could date back to 1822 with a 'Williams' in Bangor.
The Greenwood family were associated with the company from 1890 until 2004 and it is often asked why if the family name is Greenwood is the company called Williams.
One story is that because the company was predominately associated with the Welsh slate industry a solid Welsh name was required - hence 'Williams'.
However, when asked about this John Greenwood, who was the last Chairman and Managing Director thought that his family might have purchased the business from a Mr Williams of Bangor.
We are specialists in all types of traditional pitched roofing from Kent Peg Tiling to slating and modern concrete tiling; and experts in the repair and renovation of buildings including brickwork, carpentry and plastering.

John Williams & Company have re-tiled many important properties throughout the county over the past eighty years or more as well as advising architects, surveyors and organisations on the repair and renewal of these unique roofs.
Kent Peg Tiled roofs are a beautiful feature of the traditional Kent environment.
The fast pitched roofs with a rich variety of natural hues and undulating surfaces give a peg tile roof its charm and undeniable character.
Peg tiling is a craft where traditional skills have been passed down through generations and where local traditions and customs make for a very vernacular experience.
Using traditional moulded sand techniques, lead casting specialists John Williams & Company create seamless lead plaques and decorative features.
If you would like to get a quotation for a lead casting or need some advice please contact us.
A template is made in the exact form as the required finished lead feature.
Templates can be made from any material so long as it is relatively smooth.
Sand moulds will take the shape of even the finest of details so if materials such as natural timber are used the mould is likely to also incorporate the grain of the wood in the casting process.
Our Company Slate Manuals may have changed appearance, but the information and techniques shown within are largely unchanged.
Slate has been quarried or mined throughout the United Kingdom for many centuries in mountainous locations, sometimes in hazardous working conditions.
Due to the difficulties of transportation, slates were only used to roof houses close to the source of supply.
With the advent of the Industrial Revolution, however, transport and technical innovations meant that the slates were able to be mass-produced and sent to all parts of the country to cover the roofs of new houses being built in the rapidly developing industrial towns.
